Spineey is in beta. All data here is wiped when the beta ends, and most of the stories are seed data.

Our mission

A place built to make you finish.

Spineey is a carefully built environment for new authors to finish stories in casual competitions. Finishing is what earns recognition here — a blurb, a cover and readers of your own — and it is how a writer learns where to improve.

For writers

You learn to write by finishing.

To become a writer you have to keep writing into the dark — no amount of planning guarantees anything, so you keep going and make it fun with your own ideas. Only by finishing do you find out where to improve. So the studio is built like a trainer rather than a gate: a short list of checks before a chapter goes live, a reader who reads it first, and a promise your readers can watch you keep.

5 checks before a release

A chapter going live for the first time carries every one: it opens in a scene, something changes, the last page pulls, the author read it out loud once, and the title says what it is about.

A first reader, always available

Ask for a reader on a draft and another author claims it, reads it and sends you a critique. One request is always allowed, so the swap can never run dry.

A promise you print

Tell your readers the day the next chapter lands. The release keeps it, the book page prints the day, and the studio counts what was kept and what is late — a broken promise is printed, not scored.

Casual competitions

Win something you can wear.

Contests are the casual part: a themed window, a brief, a deadline and one entry per author. Enter a published story of your own, or tag one and it enters itself. A win grants the contest's own atmosphere — a cover no picker will offer, because the only way to wear it is to earn it — and every placed story gets a line from Spineey on its page. Placings live on your profile as an awards shelf.

One brief, one deadline

Enter one published story of your own while the window is open. A brief can demand a finished work, and the entry rule is printed where you write.

A workshop, not a lottery

In a workshop contest every entrant reads the story entered just before theirs, and the judging waits until each entry carries a critique — so a story that does not win still leaves with notes.

A cover only a win grants

The prize is the contest's own atmosphere on the work's card and hero, plus Spineey's line about it. No picker offers an award gradient, so it cannot be chosen — only won.

For readers

A reading room, not a feed.

The other half of the bargain: Spineey has to be the best place to enjoy a new read, or finishing here means nothing. A seeded catalogue row and an author's first serial are ranked together on the reads people actually gave them, filed by genre and tag, and read on a surface with no ads and no engagement loops.

Find the next good thing

16 browse categories — the genres and the tags readers search together — make discovery human, so you can always find your kind of story.

A reader that disappears

Chapters open on a focused reading surface with a single job: keeping you inside the story.

A first look for new work

The first-look chart shows the newest published stories under a hundred reads, so a first chapter meets a reader instead of waiting behind a reads-only ranking.

When you're ready

We want you to outgrow us.

Spineey is the first trial, not the last. When a work wins, its author can pitch it — logline, summary, who it is for and what it is like — and Spineey carries it to the partner publishers it works with. With your permission the record travels too: works, finishes, placings and lines, so the people who commission stories can find you. Nothing is signed away. You keep everything you wrote.

How we build

Every surface serves the finish.

Six surfaces, one purpose: a story that gets finished, and then found.

Discover

Browse by genre or tag, and judge a book by more than a thumbnail.

Read

A calm chapter surface and a natural place to keep going.

Write

A studio that turns a blank page into a serial, one chapter at a time.

Finish

A craft checklist, a first reader, and the Finisher badge at 3 finished works.

Compete

Seasonal contests gather the community around a single brief.

Advance

A win opens a pitch, and a record that travels to partner publishers with your permission.
