Terms of Service
Last updated 1970
Spineey publishes serial fiction: writers post chapters as they finish them, and readers follow along. These terms cover the account you sign in with, the work you publish and the books you buy. They describe what this software does today.
Your account
An account is an email address, a password and a passkey. Both steps sign you in: the email and password name the account, and the passkey is what completes the sign-in.
Spineey sends no email. This application has no mailer, so nothing is ever delivered to the address on your account: the address is not verified, there are no notifications, and there is no self-service password reset.
The passkey is the only second factor. If you lose every passkey registered to the account, an operator has to clear the registered passkeys before you can enrol another one; there is no automated way back in.
What you write
You keep the rights to the stories, chapters, comments and reviews you write.
Publishing a work grants the operator only what is needed to display and serve it: storing the text, and showing it to readers under your name.
Content that breaks the law, or these terms, can be removed.
Reading and buying
The first three written chapters of a book are free to read. The rest of the book opens with a single purchase of that book.
The purchase happens on Stripe's own checkout page, and that page is the only place card details are entered. They never reach this application, which is told only that a payment for a book succeeded.
A purchase opens the whole book for good, including chapters the author publishes afterwards.
A refund does not revoke a purchase today: a book you have bought stays open.
Your data
What is stored against your account, and how to have it removed, is set out on the privacy page (/privacy).
